FAO, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, was founded in 1945. Its headquarters has been in Roma since 1951, and its mission is to combat hunger in the world.

There is a Diplomatic Corps accredited to FAO, granted the same exemptions as those for Diplomats to the Quirinale. Very often an Ambassador can be accredited with both Italy and FAO at the same time.

Embassies and permanent representations to International Organisations based in Rome refer to the FAO Protocol Office for some bureaucratic matters, for others to the Diplomatic Ceremonial of Foreign Affairs.
