The Ceremonial is a set of rules governing formal relations between Institutions, organisations and public offices. They are applied during official ceremonies, as well as in numerous other areas of public relations. The main occasions for which Ceremonial rules apply are:
- ceremonies
- conferences and congresses, institutional and business
- work lunches
- visits
- festivities
- honours
- written correspondence: messages and letters
- business negotiations and deals
The Ceremonial should not be confused with etiquette (synonymous with “bon ton”), an unwritten code of rules that pertain to the conduct of the individual in personal relations, and are a free choice.
The Protocol consists of the set of rules, provisions and activities that govern the public aspects of the ceremonial.
