The prescription charge or ticket in Italy is the part of the cost that the citizen must pay to purchase class A medicines and some healthcare services.
If the citizen is entitled, he may request the partial or total exemption of this charge, based on some criteria established by law, such as:
- Chronic pathologies
- Rare diseases
- Early diagnosis of tumours
- Disability
- Pregnancy
- HIV test
- Income
For all exemption requests, the citizen must submit all specific certificates and an ID document, NHS registration number and tax code (alternatively Health Insurance Card).
Both the type of exemption (full or partial) and the amount to be paid by the beneficiary is established by single regions. We accordingly suggest you contact the local ASL for further information on this question.
