The wishes from the Diplomatic Corps to the Pope take place at the start of every new year, normally between the 7 and 11 January. On this occasion, the Supreme Pontiff receives the Diplomatic Corps in a collective Audience in the Vatican Apostolic Palace. It is generally the Doyen who presents the best wishes to the Head of State in the name of the Diplomatic Corps, which is then exchanged by the Pope.

The ceremony is usually followed by a dinner offered by the Diplomatic Corps to the Secretary of State who participates along with another two or three Vatican representatives.

The wishes to the Pope are always followed by the wishes of the Diplomatic Corps to the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller. The Audience takes place at Villa Malta on the Aventine Hill.
