A Chargé d’Affaires (ad interim) is a diplomatic agent (temporary post) that provisionally heads the Mission when the Chief of Mission is absent or is unable to perform his duties (due to holiday, illness or service reasons).

The Chargé d’Affaires with Letters designates the permanent Chief of a Diplomatic Mission, and is of a rank below that of the Ambassador.
