The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues an identity card (recognised by Italian law as an ID document) to personnel working at Diplomatic-Consular Representations and International Organisations in Italy. It consists of a card with a photo of the cardholder and in different colours depending on the grade of the applicant.
Applicable to:
- Diplomatic and Consular officers, officials of International Organisations and respective families
- Technical-administrative staff
- Staff hired overseas and accompanying staff
Where to apply:
The identity card is issued by the Ceremonial office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The request should be made through the website www.cerionline.esteri.it, following the indicated procedure.
For the Diplomatic Corps to the Holy See:
There is also a Vatican Card, to be requested with a Note Verbal from the State Secretariat, compiling the ad hoc form.
