The Vatican Grottoes are situated beneath the central nave of St Peter’s Basilica. Known as the Tombs of the Popes, they are a veritable monumental complex. There are the remains of the Popes as well as major works of art from the basilica.
The Vatican grottoes are open every day from 7:00 to 18:00 (April – September) and from 7:00 to 17:00 (October – March).
Entrance is free of charge. Entrance is via the right transept of the Basilica.
